Running a small business and managing my anxiety and depression,

Updated: Sep 20, 2020

Do you get anxious for no reason? Spells of depression? Extra stressed over silly things? Let me tell you, YOU ARE NOT ALONE.

"Anxiety is your body's natural response to stress."

Did you know that anxiety disorders are the most common mental illness?

Nearly one-half of those diagnosed with depression are also diagnosed with an anxiety disorder.

"Anxiety breaks down into six categories:

generalized anxiety disorder, panic disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder, social anxiety disorder, specific phobias, and post-traumatic stress disorder."

Since I was a young kid I suffered from getting overly worrisome about things a child simply shouldn't be worrying about. I realized later in my life, I suffered from anxiety. This kept me from certain activities in part, but also in ways, it inspired me to gather tools. These tools would allow me to dance with that fear in what would become a more than copacetic way.

"Anxiety disorders can be caused by a number of factors, including trauma, stress buildup or stress due to an illness, withdrawal from drugs or alcohol, or family history of mental health issues."

When creating a business from scratch, if you're like me, you forget to think about all the added stress it could bring into your life. Owning your own business isn't always roses and cherries, let me tell you.

"Anxiety can produce both physical and emotional symptoms. People with anxiety experience restlessness, irritability, difficulty concentrating, chronic fatigue, nausea, dizziness, and worsening worry or fear over extended periods of time."

Yeah, you can probably agree with me that anxiety SUCKS!

So, how do I manage my small business stresses / struggles

& ANYTHING that life throws at me. ? !

( 1 ) Solid Support System/ Team,

Who doesn't need a solid support team? We can't do EVERYTHING on our own. Even the most stubborn of us people can admit that, right? Find your tribe & vibe!

"Part of life is experiencing ups and downs. We want people who understand us and can be depended upon during tough times. We need people who will listen to us and give us honest feedback. Research has proved that having a support system has many positive benefits, such as higher levels of well-being, better coping skills and a longer and healthier life. Studies have also shown that social support can reduce depression and anxiety"

( 4 ) Meditation,

Breathe in. Breath out. Simple, don't forget to breathe! So often my anxiety puts a rush on situations where they don't often need to be. I find meditation reminds me to calm down, take a moment for just myself, breathe, relax, that IT'S GOING TO BE OKAY.

"One study found that mindfulness and zen type meditations significantly reduce stress when practiced over a period of three months. Another study revealed that meditation literally reduces the density of brain tissue associated with anxiety and worrying. If you want your stress levels to plummet, meditation may be the answer."
