Why Help Save The Manatees?

From them: “Save the Manatee Club was founded in 1981 by Bob Graham, former Florida Governor and U.S. Senator, and singer/songwriter Jimmy Buffett. The Club was started with the mission to protect manatees and their habitat. Today, Save the Manatee Club is the world’s leading manatee conservation organization.

Origin: Human activities are harming manatees, and only our compassion and action can protect them.

Manatees are Florida’s official state marine mammal. They are listed as vulnerable at the international level. They are listed as threatened at the federal and at the state level. Their listing status is largely due to human activity. Since record-keeping began in 1974, more than 41% of manatee deaths where cause of death was identified were human-related – and almost 34% were due to watercraft collisions (the largest known cause of manatee deaths). With increased awareness, education, regulations, and enforcement, manatee deaths caused by humans could be substantially reduced, and the eventual recovery of the species could be realized.

How To Help Manatees

Unlike other animal adoption programs, the manatees in our adoption programs are real, living manatees with known histories.” To see the manatees in the adoption program visit this page.

Why Help LGBTQ+ ?

From them: “About Our Global Movement: The It Gets Better Project is a nonprofit organization with a mission to uplift, empower, and connect lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer youth around the globe. Growing up isn’t easy, especially when you are trying to affirm and assert your sexual orientation and/or gender identity. It can be a challenging and isolating process – but, the good news is, no one has to do it alone.

Origin: In 2010, Dan Savage and his partner, Terry Miller, uttered three words that would give rise to a global movement focused on empowerment of LGBTQ+ youth — it gets better. What began as a wildly successful social media campaign to provide hope and encouragement to young LGBTQ+ people has evolved into a major, multi-media platform capable of reaching millions of young people every year through inspiring media programming, a growing network of international affiliates, and access to an arsenal of community-based service providers.”

Why Help Homeless People Have Access To Vegan Food?

From them: “Chilis on Wheels believes that an empowered community is key in dismantling systematic inequalities that prevent veganism from being attainable by poor and low-income communities. Through our networks of support, we're collectively building

alternate systems to make veganism accessible to the areas that we serve.

Origin: Chilis on Wheels was started in November of 2014 by Michelle Carrera. When she couldn't find a soup kitchen that served a vegan Thanksgiving meal, she decided to prepare her own chili and take it directly to the community. After seeing first hand the need for such a program, she became inspired and committed to bringing vegan food to those in need.”

Why Help Foster Kids and Teens?

From Bags4Kids: The Bags4Kids program is possible because of the generosity of organizations, companies and individuals who believe in our cause and see the need to make a difference in a helpless child’s life.

As a nonprofit, Bags4Kids adheres to strict guidelines and accounts for every dime being donated to our organization. Monetary donations in any amount are much appreciated not just by our team, but also by the children that we help. We want to provide them a bag to eliminate the trash bags! Placement bags can be placed in the hands of newly arrived foster children and give them some small comforts, meet some basic needs, and give them something to call their own.

Why Help Maui's Bay?

From them: “Unfortunately, 25% of Maui’s surveyed reef sites are dead. Half of Maui’s surveyed reef sites are declining in health.

Maui also has the 2nd lowest fish abundance in the Hawaiian Islands. Some native fish stocks have declined by 90%.

According to the State of Hawaii Department of Health, Maui has Hawaii’s most polluted coastal waters. From 2012-2014, 90% of the water samples collected in Maui coastal waters failed to meet State standards. DT Fleming Beach Park and many other places face chronic brown water events.

Origin: As a Maui-based nonprofit, we believe in the power of community involvement, partnerships and public education to solve these and other problems that undermine the quality of our nearshore ocean waters and coral reefs. After all, many of the threats impacting Maui County’s reefs and nearshore ocean water begin on land, right here on our islands.”

Origin: The Loveland Foundation was established in 2018 by Rachel Cargle in response to her widely successful birthday wish fundraiser, Therapy for Black Women and Girls. Her enthusiastic social media community raised over $250,000, which made it possible for Loveland to provide over 600 hours in therapy sessions for free to its first cohort of Black women and girls.
